Mentioning someone on Facebook using PC is a very simple task but in Facebook mobile this feature isn’t available yet. However, there are some reasonable explanations for why they didn’t include this feature.

Nowadays we are already familiar with mentioning feature. We can easily mention someone on Twitter by putting ‘@’ before the username (e.g. @TechsRoot) and on Facebook desktop version this feature is pretty much similar, we just have to type ‘@’ before the friend’s name and some suggestions will show up using a drop down system where we can find the actual person to mention. Whenever you mention someone on Facebook, the person gets a notification that you mentioned him in your post or in any comments, which is of course a great way to get someone's attention quickly.

How to Mention Someone on Facebook from Mobile:

Method #1:

I know you are already logged in and if not, please log in first :P So whom do you want to mention? You just need to get his ID number! I should tell you one thing which I forgot to tell earlier that we all have our numerical version of our Facebook username!!! We are going to find that out today. Now go to your friend’s profile (whom you want to mention) and click on his profile picture. Then look up at the address bar of your browser. You should see something like following url:

https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=638027972983672&id=100003294254587&set=a.120838411369300.20894.100003294252787&refid=17

So, the number (after id=) indicated in green color is the ID number or the numerical version of the username. Now copy the ID number from your browser address bar. Then in your posts or comments you have to type @[Numerical ID:] for mentioning.  For live example, @[216311481960:] (This will mention Bill Gates)

Not finished yet! For instance, if you type @[216311481960:] this will convert to ‘Bill Gates’ (THE FULL NAME) but what if we want to show just a part of the name?

If you want to show just a single part of your friend’s name than you have to type like this @[216311481960:Bill] then it will show only ‘Bill’ while mentioning in the posts or comments!

Method #2:

Go to your friend’s (whom you want to mention) profile or timeline. Now look up at the address bar and replace ‘www’ with ‘graph’ (without quotation marks) then go to the link. Should be something like following url:

https://graph.facebook.com/BillGates

In this page you will see the numerical ID at the top (e.g. "id": "216311481960").

Now copy the ID number from the page. Then in your posts or comments you have to type @[Numerical ID:] for mentioning.  For live example, @[216311481960:] (This will mention Bill Gates)

Also, If you want to show just a single part of your friend’s name than you have to type like this @[216311481960:Bill] then it will show only ‘Bill’ while mentioning in the posts or comments!

Caution: Don’t put any spaces in the code.

Update:

Now Facebook has officially added the the mention feature for mobile.
